Name: Where There Is Love....
Date: June 4, 2017
Time: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM EDT
Event Description:
The Peterborough Chamber Choir, directed by David Vernier, will be presenting a concert on Sunday, June 4, at the Sumner Knight Chapel in Woodland Cemetery, at 4 pm. Titled “Where there is love…”, the concert will focus on “Aspects of Love in Choral Music from the 16th to 21st Century”. Musical highlights will include a cappella choral works by composers and arrangers such as Thomas Tallis, Thomas Tomkins, William Byrd, Maurice Duruflé, Stephen Paulus, and two new compositions specially written for the choir by director David Vernier. Various styles will be represented, both sacred and secular, including partsongs, motets, a Shaker hymn, madrigals, and a soft and cool jazz piece. Themes involve many aspects of love—romantic, parental, spiritual—and range in mood from light and humorous to love at its most serious and deeply affecting. Admission to the concert is by donation and the program is suggested for older children and adults—all donations for this performance will benefit the repair and reconstruction of the Sumner Knight Chapel.
