Name: An Exhibit to Celebrate the Life and Work of Albert D Quigley 1891-1961
Date: May 5, 2017 - September 8, 2017
Event Description:
Through his art and music, Albert Duvall Quigley enriched the town of Nelson, New Hampshire, and the Monadnock Region in countless ways. Born to a stonecutting family in rural Maine, he served in World War I and briefly studied painting in Paris. After returning to the US., he moved to Keene and later settled in Nelson Village, where he was an active member of the community until his death in 1961. Quig, as he was known, not only painted and played the fiddle, he also composed tunes and made and repaired fiddles. He made frames to enhance his paintings and those of other area artists, most notably his colleague Alexander James of the Dublin Art Colony. But always, constantly, he painted. Today these paintings of area landscapes and people bring them to life with a startling immediacy. Exhibit is open: Tues., Thurs., Friday: 9 am – 4 pm Wed. 9 am – 9 pm First & Third Sat: 9 am - noon For more information: 603-352-1895 or visit www.hsccnh.org
